Laughing boy

The other day Beckett began laughing hysterically at my water bottle.  He hasn't done it again since.  Haha.

Bumble

So, I have always loved Bumble, the Abominable Snowmonster from the Rudolph claymation movie.  In college I bought some Bumble slippers to help me brave the winters of Provo...
As a stocking stuffer a year later I received a Bumble Altoid Tin which I still use to this day to hold my gum...
And to continue the tradition I just ordered Beckett his stocking with none other than the lovable monster on it...

Viernes Negro

Our big purchase this year (because we wait all year to buy one large electronic device) was a new camera...we love it!  This is the face Beckett made in response to "How did you like your first Black Friday?"
He was a trooper. And here he is....notice how much his hair is growing, yay!

To do:

I figure that if I write this list down I might actually get to it all someday.
Things I want to make/do:
Make a much bigger dent into Jeremy's mission scrapbook, I'm currently here...

Finish Beckett's new quilt / paint and decorate room (pictures to come)
Finish painting our kitchen table and chairs
Sew a new Tie skirt like my old one, but better quality...

Make a photo collage on the wall of my family's white pictures.  A new one is coming this December...
Make a photo collage of all the Latter-day prophets including quotes from each

Reflections of Christ

Remeber this post?  Well Mark Mabry, who took the photos of the Easter Pageant in Mesa, AZ a few years back, went to Honduras and took some more amazing pictures.  I love it.  It makes me want to go and visit Jeremy's mission in Guatemala even more.  Like the first set, you can also purchase a dvd or book of the pictures from Deseret Book.  Enjoy.

Utah

So last weekend we went up to Utah for conference...
And on the way home I knew we had to stop in Hurricane, UT to visit someone special because the chance might pass us by if we didn't. We stopped to see my great-grandma Dorothy...
Beckett's great-great-grandma
I knew that having multiple great-grandparents alive into my teens was somewhat rare, and I don't know if anyone his age will have a picture spanning five generations like Beckett now has.  What a tender moment it was to watch her hold him and keep telling us that she never thought she would see the day when she'd be a great-great-grandmother.

Jump

Beckett loves his bouncer and bounces even higher than on this video, but wouldn't do it for me when I was filming.

My favorites

Some of my favorite most recent pictures of the boy...
More are available for your viewing pleasure on facebook.

It starts.

Our whole lives my sisters and I constantly got comments when we would go out from strangers regarding our eyes and eyelashes..."Your daughters have the most beautiful eyes!"  "Do you curl their eyelashes?"  "Are your girls wearing mascara?"  These were typical comments made to my mother or us.  I would definitely take all the comments and keep my eyes...I'm not complaining there, but as kids it quickly became annoying and redundant having to say "Thank you" all the time to people we didn't know.  If anyone should be thanked, it's my mother because her side of the family gave us the beautiful, long, curly, black eyelashes we are blessed to have.  Thank you mom.

Well go figure, Jeremy has crazy-long eyelashes as well, so our little boy has the dark, semi-curly combination from both of us.  And since they've turned dark it's fun to finally have something on him that totally resembles me for once!  Haha.  So now every time we are out in public we have started getting the eye/eyelash comments about Beckett.  Even his pediatrician has told us Beckett has the longest eyelashes on a 2 month old (at the time we saw him last) that he has EVER seen.  And so, it starts...except now I am constantly saying "Thank you" to strangers about my son's eyes instead of my own, which is better I guess, but probably won't end any time soon.

For Alexis...

Alexis got this cute stuffed lion for Beckett...it is so soft and cuddly and since he just learned to grab things, he loves it!  Thanks Alexis!

Beach Time

We joined Jeremy at the beach one evening last week. I think Beckett is going to grow up loving it. He felt the sand with his feet and then kept moving them around in it. Precious!

Johnson's

Sorry in advance if this post is weird/too much unwanted information. So since switching around to test all the nursing pads out there I think I have found the best ones. I started with Lansinoh, but didn't like the large tape areas...they are pretty pointless since I have a layer between the pad and my bra. I then tried Playtex ones which had a little smaller tape area and were cheaper. Then in an emergency run to CVS, Jeremy (yes he is a gem) came home with Johnson's brand because it was all they had...and i couldn't be happier! If you are planning to breastfeed for the first time at some point or again in the future then try them! They are smaller (who needs all that pad anyway), they are softer (even though they still have the diaper style absorbency), the tape area is very small, they are not folded up and wrapped in packaging but are instead stacked in the box (no more funky bumps/lines to deal with), and are cheaper than both the other brands.

We've created...

a monster. Well more like the Loch Ness monster of our Scottish heritage if anything. I can't give Beckett a bath without letting him have his swimming time for a good 5 minutes afterward at least.

Shark Week

...is long since over (sadly). But I have to post the pictures of Beckett because he totally rocked his first shark week with his shark blanket, pj's, and sunglasses (I know you can't really see, but there are sharks on the lenses!).

Swimming!

Beckett loved his first time swimming! We tried dunking him, and he liked it the first time, but not so much the second (which is sadly the only one we got on film). Haha.

Dishes

I'm trying to post about some fun things that happened this summer before I forget about them. One weekend our family of 7 (Abby stayed behind for soccer) took a quick trip down to the Mexico house. Of course, no trip to Baja is complete without stopping by Tacos Cantamar for some tacos and tortas. We arrived as they were cleaning up and getting ready to close, but they love my dad so they got their food back out and started cooking for us. Since we caused them delay in shutting down my dad decided to help them get out of there quicker by doing our dishes for them when we finished eating. We were all dying of laughter and had to take a picture because it was strange seeing some 6'2" white guy doing dishes in the back of a roadside food stand in Mexico!

A Toy For...Beckett??

So one day my mom, Arica, and I found this stuffed animal style camera for a few bucks at Ross. It makes a shutter sound when you press the button on top...that's it. Once we decided to buy it I soon came to realize that Arica and Abby probably would have more fun with that thing than Beckett may ever have. They would stand by you, say smile, pull it from behind their backs, press the button, shift poses, and take some more "pictures". It is pretty hilarious. Good times.

Chelsea

Tuesday we went to the Rose Bowl to see our favorite English team, Chelsea FC, play Inter Milan. Beckett loved it!

Hands

Beckett's hands have always been in front of his face since he was in utero...he still does this. Then the other day we saw him sleeping in his swing like this...He always has to have his arms free...whenever we wrap him he wiggles until they're out.

Happy Birthday my Love!

Jeremy...you are 24 today...the few months when we are different ages bother me...mostly because you always bring up how old I am and how on big milestones in our life together I am a year older (wedding, baby's birth, etc.). I am so glad you were born! Happy birthday and hooray for these months when we're the same age! I love you!!!

Baby Boy is Here!

Beckett James Smith
Born at 1:58 am June 22, 2009
7 lbs. 2 oz., 18 3/4 in.

I am finally getting around to posting about this little angel while he takes a nap. Today is the first day we don't have doctor's appointments or somewhere else to be or people to visit...and it is so nice!

I began contracting at 10:30 pm Saturday after a day of castor oil and an adjustment from our chiropractor Dr. White. I waited till 12 to go to the hospital. They sent me home because I wasn't dilated. We came back at 4 am after a few miles of walking. I stayed at only 1cm until about 10 pm on Father's day. I got pitocin at 3 pm, an epidural at 6 pm, and was about 3cm at 10 pm. By midnight I was almost fully dilated. They got ready the next hour, I began pushing at 1 am, and he came at 1:58 Monday morning. The labor was hard with the pitocin, but the delivery (aside from being tiring) didn't hurt at all. I am so grateful I did not have to have a c-section, which runs in my family when there's a failure to progress...a pattern it looked like I was following. I pretty much lucked completely out with an amazing pregnancy and delivery (don't hate me, haha). I could not have made it through the labor and delivery without the amazing help of Arica, and mom and Jeremy.

Beckett had some complications at birth...high billyrubin levels caused by blood incompatibility. He has Jeremy's blood type, and our blood mixed when he was born, so the antibodies I have against his blood type began attacking his blood cells and induced jaundice. Luckily the doctor got to it quickly (coupled with tons of prayers of family and also a priesthood blessing for Beckett), so he was able to go home after only one full day under the lights. He is doing great now, and we could not be happier. We feel so much more complete as a family of 3 instead of 2 (for a few years at least haha).
