Balls, wheels, and cell phones

In an effort to live up to the title on my header and blog (at least) weekly I'll let you in on what we were up to last weekend.  We didn't do very much, but it was actually kind of nice.  Beckett had his final soccer game for his team.  Despite it being over 100 degrees that day, he played longer than he had in any of his previous games.  He likes to play goalie (because of the lack of running involved, and because it makes his goalie aunt proud) and he's not bad at it!  He blocked a handful of goals from a kid a head taller than everyone else on the two teams (definitely not 3 or 4 years old like they're supposed to be in that league) by squatting down a little and stretching his arms out wide.  He took a shot to the hand, and one big one to the chest, but the crowd cheered for him, and it was amazing!  He was so excited to get his medal for the season after the game.

Jeremy promptly left the game to go buy his new mountainbike.  He got it for a steal thanks to old friends being super nice, and he is so excited!  Since he got that little beauty, I decided I would splurge on the device I've been waiting so long for!  At midnight on Thursday night/Friday morning I ordered my very first iPhone!  I never wanted to have a data plan until Jeremy was out of school and had a job.  I watched and waited as Verizon finally got the iPhone.  I watched and waited until my upgrade came in June.  I watched and waited until my husband graduated and got his job in July.  I figured after waiting so long...why not wait another few months until they released a new iPhone.  The announcement came, and today mine will be coming in the mail!  Merry early Christmas (for the most part) to both of us!

Well folks...I'm not sure exactly how many of you are out there, but here's my self-promotion plug.  I love messing around in photoshop, and I love being able to mimic cool things I find online and then make and give them as gifts.  I'm branching out and hoping to sell some of my crafties, so I finally took the plunge and opened an Etsy shop!  (Clicking on the banner below will take you to my page.)

Adventures in Insurance-hood

For the first time in our married lives we have insurance from an employer.  It took me getting a UTI this week for us to realize just how blessed we have been in the past.  Jeremy had very limited health coverage from his school while he was a student.  The kids have always had Medi-Cal.  Me...well I only ever had maternity coverage through Medi-Cal while I was pregnant (so, 18 months of the five years we've been married).  What a miracle it has been that I never needed medical treatment for anything like this in the past because we wouldn't have had the coverage (or likely the cash) for this kind of care.  I am so grateful for my body making it through those years without the remotest need to see a doctor other than my ObGyn.  All of this makes me so grateful now for the excellent and instant coverage that this job has afforded us.

And can we just talk about how wonderful it is to just drive 2 miles away to an amazing Kaiser facility. I was given an urgent care appointment for the evening (ideal because Jeremy would be home so I wouldn't be dragging the kids there with me).  I was sitting down for not even 60 seconds in the waiting room before being called back.  They took my vitals, got a sample, and tested it in a few short minutes.  I waited in a room for the doctor to come give me the results.  She sent me straight downstairs to the pharmacy.  My prescription was ready in about 3 minutes, and that was that.  That place is dialed in!  Wow!


**as a side note: since I wrote this post last week I have also been sick with a virus I got from Lincoln, and Jeremy thinks he re-tore his meniscus last night playing soccer.  I pray that he didn't, but either way we are so blessed that this stuff didn't happen 3 months ago.
